This is what a comet looks like

This is the nucleus of comet Hartley 2 as imaged this morning by the EPOXI spacecraft, the rechristened mothership of the Deep Impact mission that launched an imapactor that was mainly 370 kg (820 lb) of copper in the comet Tempel 1.
